Validating the Use of VHP Female Human Model for Non-Clinical Assessment of Female Patients in MRI Procedures

The Visible Human Project (VHP) has made significant contributions to the field of human modeling, providing researchers with a comprehensive and detailed computer-aided design (CAD) model of the female human body. This CAD model, derived from the VHP dataset, offers a valuable tool for non-clinical assessment of female patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures.

In recent studies, the potential use of this VHP-derived CAD model has been explored in detail, with a focus on its application in 1.5 T and 3 T MRI scans. To validate the accuracy of this model, researchers have employed numerical simulation methods to compare the results obtained using the VHP Female computational human model with those from experimental data.

Four different application examples were identified and used to compare the simulation results to those obtained through experimentation. These examples included various scenarios in which patients of age 50–65 years with a body mass index (BMI) of 30–36 underwent MRI procedures. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the VHP Female CAD model in accurately predicting specific absorption rate (SAR) and temperature rise within the human body during these scans.

The use of CST Studio Suite coil simulations was critical in this validation process, as it allowed researchers to accurately model the behavior of electromagnetic fields and their effects on the human body. By integrating the VHP Female CAD model with CST Studio Suite coil simulations, investigators were able to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between MRI equipment and the human body.
